if i was at a gathering and a family member or stranger came up to talk to me and i couldn’t hide in the shadows, i would panic. i would start to sweat, soaking through the collar and armpits of my shirt; i would be barely able to speak. i would feel so embarrassed and humiliated that i just had to get up and leave the room. i wanted to get out of the house. they wouldn’t see the fear i felt, and they wouldn’t see the panic. i also relate to that feeling of wanting to hide in the shadows.
i have social anxiety…. i have prearranged my life in order to avoid these attacks. i have a son, who was putting to much pre workout powder in his drinks. according to another therapist, i was well within the correct weight range for my height and i really didn’t want to go on that diet, but when mom wants, one does, like-it-or-not. i didn’t even know what the attacks were until i was in my early forties and then attributed it to my ocd, both of which i gather are common in people with bipolar disorder. seeking dual enrollment for higher education once the summer of 1987 was over, i went to school on the first day of my senior… hindsight is 20/20. facing bipolar disorder & anxiety i have lived with bipolar disorder and anxiety all my life.
