intjs need a lot of alone time, they lose energy by increased social interaction, and since they are intuitives they are going to enjoy speaking in metaphor. they also tend to be perfectionistic and that could also be one of the reasons they can struggle with depression – not having their ideas perfected. you can check it out here in my own words, i think a big reason why intps get diagnosed with add is that they have an internal thinking process – they keep their options open for a long time and a lot of their innovative logical thought isn’t demonstrated to the outside world. again, i think a lot of this has to do with the fact that they are often misunderstood in today’s society. for this reason, it is hard for intps to get rid of things that they see a potential use for (and almost anything has a use), and hard for them to get rid of anything that is linked to a past memory or any sense of nostalgia (si). many times intps have a fear of failure, and so they keep their ideas to themselves. the rote aspects of school can be very frustrating and boring for them, and they can find that their mind wanders a lot. they are down-to-earth, private, and often have a surprisingly offbeat sense of humor. they bear grudges and are unwilling to forgive the insults that they think they have received. obviously, as a private person, it’s going to be hard to do that and you may be skeptical of the help that a therapist or counselor could provide. i always feel like i need to defend the estjs because a lot of what i see online paints them as being harsh, demanding, and completely inflexible. isfjs often do prefer the security of a relationship or a community, and they work hard to avoid conflict in that relationship or community. when conflict continues for a prolonged period of time, or when their efforts go unappreciated for very long they start to feel extremely depressed and helpless. internalized emotions are confusing to them – but they feel the physical effects of them. combine this with very strong extraverted feeling, and infjs are also able to pick up and absorb the emotions of others around them. you can feel the stress of the homeless woman, the anger in the couple’s interaction, and the busy urgency of people rushing to and from various locations. they also tend to have a chameleon-like quality; changing their countenace and behavior to bring out the best in others, to relate to them, or to encourage them. it is important that they be allowed to “talk it out” and not be stifled or unacknowledged. the peacefulness and tranquility of nature has a relaxing and calming affect that allows the enfj to become more in tune with their emotions and state-of-mind. because infps are such a minority (roughly 1-4% of the population) i think they often grow up feeling isolated and misunderstood. if you are a friend of an infp, make sure to validate their feelings. also, because of their dominant ne, they will see ever-changing possibilities and will have a hard time sticking to just one plan. this may be another reason they could identify with bpd if one of the symptoms is shifting goals and vocational aspirations. they are some of the most optimistic and adaptable types, and usually try to make the best of situations. a possible reason why istps may have a higher incidence of ptsd is that they are very drawn to careers in the military. in fact, a study of type and areas of stress found that istps are the type least likely to use the coping methods “talk to someone close” or “talk to a professional”. they live in the moment and dive into the action – they are the eye of the storm. sp types are usually adaptable and optimistic in nature (although of course there are exceptions), and they try to make the best of their circumstances. esfps thrive the best when they can live in the moment, have opportunities to express their creativity and enthusiasm, and in places where they can be social and active. entjs rely intensely on their logic and thinking; because of this they are very uncomfortable with the world of feelings and emotions.
because of their strong independent nature, parents of intjs would be wise to give them a lot of responsibility, and opportunities to prove they can take care of themselves. they love to have an audience, and love a good pair of listening ears for all their ideas and plans. they are driven by a need to understand the world, and are extremely independent and strong-willed. they are often misunderstood because of this and reprimanded for not using manners or engaging in small talk. when infjs do eat, they usually enjoy a variety of foods and are open to trying new things. it is important for infjs to make sure they are meeting their nutritional needs and that they aren’t being pushed to one extreme of overeating or the opposite extreme of malnourishment. when enfps are caught up in an idea or possibility they may forget to eat for long periods of time. it is important for intjs to make sure they are meeting their nutritional needs and that they aren’t being pushed to one extreme of overeating or the opposite extreme of malnourishment. intps usually have a good sense of when they are full, and are less likely than many types to have issues with overeating. they tend to take care of their body’s needs and are unlikely to lose track of mealtimes. istjs who grow up in unhealthy environments may get into a habit of unhealthy eating and it can be especially hard for them to break this habit because the more they do something the more it becomes enjoyable to them. they often enjoy a selection of favorite foods that they come back to again and again. they love to gather at a favorite restaurant with friends, or try new and exciting dishes from around the world. this is why intjs must pair their driver process with the co-pilot of extraverted thinking, or “effectiveness.” the only way to truly know if those patterns have merit is if they play out in the ‘outer world’. this is why an intj will frequently counter an inquiry for a piece of data with the question, “why do you want to know?” the context changes the content, and so if they don’t know why you want to know they can’t produce the data. this is generally done through the development of their co-pilot process of exploration, a function that opens frames and actively looks for more information to plug into existing frameworks. for a hardcore thinker, it’s incredibly disconcerting for the intj to realize they are wired to be sensitive without the benefit of commensurate (natural) emotional intelligence. this is called being in the grip, and it’s never a pretty sight. organizing their outer world is absolutely preferential as the more organized things are the more they can mitigate distractions and stay perspectiving, so to speak. for example, while i’m in the shower i tend to think of a lot of ideas and concepts. this pattern occurs when all regions of the neocortex are in synch and dominated by brain waves that are medium-low frequency and very high-amplitude. a lot of infjs and intjs are highly-sensitive people. in order for an infj or an intj to truly be “in the zone” and able to function properly they need to be able to block out all other stimulation and get into a relaxed mental state. if you are a ni-dominant type then you can try to take little segments out of the day to shut out stimulation and think, even if it’s just for a little while. they may be out in public when their thoughts are enticed by a new thought and they begin thinking about all the possible ideas that come from that. their minds are so very vivid and rich that it causes the intj to appear like they are in a sort of trance. they have little patience for pondering and mulling over decisions, but like to come up with quick, workable plans that they can enforce or get done right away. these personality types are going to be the most skilled introverted thinkers; with istps and intps having the most proficient use of it. introverted thinkers want to create a vast web of knowledge, and find ways in which everything is interrelated. an easy way of seeing the difference between the two is that te users will be much more quick-acting, vocal about their logic, and more concerned with organizing the outer world.
